[Men's Basketball] Williams becomes 51st Bee to reach 1,000 career points

Michael Williams became the 51st Bee in program history to score 1,000 career points when he hit the milestone Wednesday night in a battle of conference leaders.Unfortunately for Williams and the Bees, it came in a 67-60 loss to Olivet Nazarene.Williams needed 13 points entering the contest and took care of it in the first half. His jump hook in the lane (below, courtesy SAUtv) put him at 1,000 points and had St. Ambrose within a point at 28-27 with just under four minutes remaining in the opening half.It gave the Bees some momentum as John Kerr followed with a free throw and Patrick Torrey and Jake Friel each hit jumpers as part of a 7-0 run that gave SAU a 32-28 lead. St. Ambrose settled for a 34-33 lead at the half.The teams stayed within four points of each other through the first 12 minutes of the second half.St. Ambrose (11-5, 6-3 CCAC) took its last lead at 48-47 on a Kerr layup at the midway point of the half. Olivet Nazarene (9-3, 8-1 CCAC) answered with a 14-4 run to build a 61-52 lead with six minutes left.The Bees fought back to within three points on a Friel layup inside the final minute. But after the Tigers missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Schols misfired on a three and Kerr was unable to score after grabbing an offensive rebound. ONU closed out the win by hitting four free throws over the final 12 seconds.Kerr led SAU with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Williams finished with 15 points and Friel dropped in 11. Schols added seven points and Torrey came off the bench to score six.Neither team shot better than 40 percent from the field for the game.The Bees hit the road to visit Indiana Northwest Saturday.
