[Men's Basketball] Late run not enough to get Bees past Redhawks

The Fighting Bees made it interesting, but couldn't find enough firepower to secure the win Wednesday night in Gary, Ind.After a back-and-forth first half, IU Northwest (14-6, 8-5 CCAC) opened up the second half with a 10-3 run to put the Bees at a 16-point disadvantage. This was where the Bees started to find their rhythm, with Tom Kazanecki drilling a three followed by layups from Jake Friel and Will Spriggs to ignite a run that eventually cut the lead down to seven. With nine minutes to go and the Bees trailing 58-48, St. Ambrose rattled off an 11-0 run to claim their first lead of the game. After the Redhawks responded with a three-pointer to retake the lead, Spriggs went down the court to tie the game back up with a layup. This would be the last field goal the Bees would make for the remainder of the game, with Ben Schols hitting a free throw to cut it to two with a 1:29 to play. A Redhawks three-point play would later seal the game at 67-62.Kazanecki led St. Ambrose with 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Spriggs and Friel scored 15 points apiece as the other two Bees in double-figures. Kazanecki and Jake Conerty both grabbed eight boards each. The road loss moves St. Ambrose to 7-12 overall and 6-8 in the CCAC. The Bees will return to Lee Lohman Saturday for another conference matchup against Trinity Christian.
