[Men's Basketball] Kerr and Williams lead Bees past Jaguars

John Kerr scored 24 points and Michael Williams added 18 as St. Ambrose closed the regular season with its third straight win, a 66-48 win at Governors State Saturday afternoon.The Bees led wire to wire behind the play of their two seniors.SAU led 8-2 less than three minutes into the contest, and built a double-digit lead with five minutes remaining in the first half. The lead was 37-27 at the half.After Governors State (9-10, 7-4 CCAC) opened the second half with a free throw, St. Ambrose scored the next seven points, capped by a Dylan Kaczmarek 3-pointer, to go up 44-28. The lead was at least 13 the rest of the way.Along with 24 points, Kerr led all players with 13 rebounds. He helped SAU to a 49-31 rebounding advantage.  Each of the eight Bees who played pulled down at least four rebounds.Ben Schols narrowly missed giving the Bees three players in double figures as he scored nine points. Kaczmarek netted seven.SAU's suffocating defense held GSU to 30.5 percent shooting from the field. The Jaguars were just 6-of-28 from 3-point range.The Bees, now 14-5 overall and 9-3 in the conference, finished with the second-best winning percentage in the CCAC but earned third place in the conference based on a point system. The team will turn its attention to the CCAC Tournament, beginning with first-round play Tuesday.
