[Women's Outdoor Track & Field] Seniors part of important step in track and field

This was an important class. Georgetown College track and field coach Luke Garnett knew it when he signed his senior class all those years ago on the women's side. With the restart of the track program, the immediate need of distance runners was filled with cross country runners. However, the team, in order to compete collectively, needed sprinters and field athletes. The women's team went from low scoring meets to starting to dominate the competition this year. GC finished second, a few points off the win, in the final tune up for the Mid-South Conference Championships. At the league meet, the Tigers went from finishing sixth among eight teams in 2019 to finishing fifth against 10 teams in 2021. Following the MSC meet, Garnett took a small collection of athletes to one final regular season meet to gear up for nationals. Georgetown took second there."We kept saying the future is bright," Garnett said. "I knew this was coming. My seniors are a very special class in taking this program to the next level. Fortunately, due to red shirt and COVID guideline changes, we'll be getting Emma (Bianchi) back. Now that we've seen what is achievable, the hunger for more is there."
