Night Hawks Fall Short to Bobcats
LAKELAND, Fla. – The Thomas University Men's basketball team could not keep up with St. Thomas Tuesday evening, falling to the Bobcats 83-70 at the Furnace.
The Night Hawks (9-15, 9-9 TSC) once again struggled in the 3-Pt. battle against the Burgundy & Navy, converting 33.3% from beyond the perimeter while STU (11-9, 10-8 TSC) shot 52.4%.
Senior Forward Desean Enzor led the Night Hawks with 17 points and eight boards, while Junior Guard Toriano Lewis finished the night shooting 50% from the field.
The first half began with both teams exchanging baskets, but midway through the half, TU pulled out to an eight-point lead (23-15) from a jumper from Junior Guard Tim Williamson at the 11:18 mark. The Bobcats quickly responded, tying the game at 25 with a 10-2 scoring run in a 5:08 span that saw Thomas shoot 0-for-8 from the field.
With both teams tied (33-33) with 1:30 left in the first half, STU took the lead for good, capitalizing off two baskets to go up by four. A basket from Freshman Guard Deonta Jones pulled the contest to within two (37-35), but St. Thomas was able to finish the half with a Dwayne Russell jumper thanks to an offensive board to head into the locker room with a 39-35 lead.
STU continued to extend its lead in the second half, building a lead as large as 23 points (67-44) at the 10:43 mark. The Night Hawks quickly responded with a 24-8 run to cut the deficit into single digits (75-68) with 2:54 left.
In the end, however, the Bobcats would seal the contest with two made 3-Ptrs. in the final minute to come away with an 83-70 win.
