Men's Hoops Stumbles at SUNY Delhi
DELHI, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team was held to just 35.6 percent shooting from the field as the Engineers ere defeated by the SUN Y Delhi Broncos by a final score of 62-43. With the loss, RPI falls to 1-3 on the season while Delhi improves to 3-1 overall.
The Broncos got things going early, 17-7 lead and holding it through the half. They went into the break up 29-20 as the Broncos continued to shoot the ball well, going 50% (13/26) from the field as a team. Marvin Louissant and Fauzi Cizmesija-Ulmer led Delhi with 17 of their 29 points in the opening half.
RPI struggled offensively, turning the ball over as the Broncos opened up a lead as large as 23 in the second half. The Engineers finished the game with 14 turnovers as the Broncos collected seven steals and a pair of blocks.
Leading the offensive charge was Jonny Angbazo, as he fell one rebound short of a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Andrew Deppe also finished in double figures with nine points, including a pair of three pointers.
Louissant finished his day with a game-high 14 points for Delhi, with Lester McCarthy adding 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting.
The Engineers return to action next Sunday, Nov. 26 at 12 p.m. when they square off with SUNY Cobleskill at ECAV Arena for their season opener at home.
