[Men's Basketball] Warriors Hold Off Men's Basketball Rally

Doane Men's Basketball traveled to Fremont on Wednesday evening to take on the Warriors of Midland. The home squad jumped out to an early lead, fought off a Doane comeback and held on for a 75-71 win over the Tigers.Midland led at the break, 42-34, behind 50-percent shooting from the floor. They scored the opening seven points of the game before Doane was able to break through on an Anthony Laravie (SR/Omaha, Neb.) jumper. The Tigers battled back to tie the game at 16-all, however, an 11-0 run by the Warriors late in the half gave them the lead into the break.In the second half, Doane opened with a 9-0 run to take their first lead of the game. With the Tigers in front, 48-44, the Warriors posted a 14-0 run to regain the lead and never looked back.Jaxon Harre (SR/Omaha, Neb.) led the Tigers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting while Laravie added 16 points. The duo matched each other with a game-high seven rebounds apiece. Tyler Sullivan (JR/Gretna, Neb.) dished out a team-high four assists. Alec Oberhauser (JR/Parkersburg, Iowa) collected four blocked shots in the game, the most by a Tigers since the 2017-18 season. As a team, Doane finished with seven blocked shots, the most since January 2018 against Concordia.Midland had five players finish in double-figures, led by Bo Sandquist with 22 points, hitting five 3-point baskets. Emanuel Bryson and Arturo Montes posted 15 points apiece with Bryson leading the team with seven rebounds. Jake Rueschhoff dished out seven assists for the Warriors. Midland was held to zero offensive rebounds in the game, the first time Doane has held an opponent without an offensive rebound in more than 20 years.For the game, Midland shot 44-percent from the floor, hitting 14 3-point baskets and going 13-of-14 at the free throw line. Doane shot 49-percent from the field, making nine 3-point baskets and converting 6-of-11 at the charity stripe.Doane will close out the season on February 20 at Concordia. Tip-off is set for 4 PM in Seward.
