[Men's Basketball] Three Drovers Record Double-Doubles in Loss Against WBU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (11-6, 8-3 SAC) suffered a disappointing 93-83 loss against Wayland Baptist University (11-6, 6-5 SAC).In the intense battle, the score was tied four times and the lead was exchanged 10 times. The Drovers got off to a great start, leading by as many as 13 with 9:34 remaining in the first half. However, the Pioneers stormed back to take a 50-48 lead into the break.Following halftime, both teams traded buckets and the Pioneers clung to a 59-58 lead with 15 minutes remaining in regulation. WBU would then heat up once more and pushed out to a 76-63 lead midway through the second half. The Drovers once more tried to rally a comeback and cut the deficit to 78-74 with six minutes remaining, but they were unable to get any closer down the stretch.As a team, the Drovers shot 30-70 (.429) from the field, and 17-46 (.370) from three-point range. In comparison, the Pioneers shot 35-68 (.515) from the field, and 11-26 (.423) from deep. Science & Arts held a 47-37 advantage in the rebounding battle, but WBU was able to force USAO into committing 14 turnovers, while only fumbling the ball seven times themselves.USAO was whistled for 15 fouls and WBU was called on 10 infractions. The Pioneers went 12-19 (.632) from the free-throw line, while USAO went 6-10 (.600) from the charity stripe.Five different Drovers scored in double figures, and three of those players also recorded double-doubles, both of which are rare feats for a team to accomplish in a loss.Langston Gaither (SR/Alexandria, VA) led the Drovers with a double-double performance, consisting of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Gaither shot an impressive 9-15 from the field, including 4-7 from beyond the arc. He also dished out four assists.Samkelo Cele (SR/Durban, South Africa) provided a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, in 25 minutes of action off the bench.Cejay Mann (SO/Alma, AR) and Cade Allen (SO/Hammon, OK) each concluded with 12 points on four made three-pointers.Gerard Makuntae (SR/Austell, GA) delivered a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards. Makuntae shot 3-4 from the field, including 2-2 from deep.Logan Dolan (SO/Broken Arrow, OK) six points as he knocked down a pair of threes. WHAT'S NEXT?The Drovers will return to action on Monday, January 16, as they travel to Fort Worth, Texas to face Texas Wesleyan University.
