[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball Upsets Dordt in Home Finale

Doane Men's Basketball gave their postseason hopes a huge breath of life on Saturday with an 83-69 upset win over Dordt in the final home game of the season. The win pulled the Tigers within a game of the final spot for the GPAC Tournament with four games to play.Doane used an 8-0 run midway through the opening half behind back-to-back 3-point baskets from Max Masin (JR/Ponca, Neb.) and Trey Winkler (JR/Gering, Neb.) to break a 19-all tie. The Defenders came back with a 14-2 run to regain the lead and posted a 42-37 advantage at the break.In the second half, an 11-0 run turned a six-point deficit into a five-point lead as Joe Burt (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) scored eight points in the run. A 14-1 run late in the half allowed the Tigers to extend the lead to their largest advantage of 16 points, 79-63.Jaxon Harre (SR/Omaha, Neb.) paced Doane with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. He was joined for team-high honors in rebounds with seven by Tyler Sullivan (JR/Gretna, Neb.) and Anthony Laravie (SR/Omaha, Neb.). Laravie finished with 14 points and Burt added 13 points. The Tigers held a 27-14 advantage in points off the bench, getting a well-balanced attack in the victory. Sullivan and Laravie led the team with four assists apiece and Laravie snagged a game-high three steals.Dordt received 14 points from Jesse Jansma and Jacob Vis. Garrett Franken added 13 points and game-high nine rebounds.Doane will hit the road for the rest of the season with a trip to Jamestown, N.D., next on the schedule. The Tigers and Jimmies will face off on Sunday, January 31, at 1 PM.
