[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball Falls Late to DWU

Doane Men's Basketball hosted GPAC front-runner Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday and led late in the second half before falling 80-73. DWU closed the game on a 14-3 run to erase with a four-point deficit with 4:42 to play.The closing of each half proved to be the difference in the game. Doane led 30-26 with four minutes to play in the opening half, however, DWU closed with a 10-5 run to lead 36-35 at the break. The Tigers led 70-66 with 4:42 to play in the second half before a 12-0 run by DWU shifted the momentum.Anthony Laravie (SR/Omaha, Neb.) led all scorers with 24 points, going 8-of-14 from the floor. He added five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Zach Witters (SR/Lenexa, Kan.) tied a career-high with 16 points, going 6-of-10 from the floor. Jaxon Harre (SR/Omaha, Neb.) added 10 points. Ben Moxness (JR/Scribner, Neb.) returned for the Tigers and matched Harre with team-high honors with six rebounds apiece.DWU received 21 points and 13 rebounds from Koln Oppold. He added five assists, three steals, and three blocked shots. Nick Harden and Ace Zorr scored 14 points apiece.Doane shot 42-percent for the game, going 8-of-30 behind the arc, and 13-of-15 at the free throw line. DWU shot 46-percent, making 7-of-19 from 3-point range, and 17-of-21 at the free throw line.Doane will host No. 8 Morningside on Wednesday, January 6, at 8 PM.
