[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball Falls in Road Battle

Doane Men's Basketball traveled to Fremont on Wednesday evening to take on Midland. The Warriors used hot shooting early on to post a 71-61 win over the Tigers. The loss dropped the Tigers to 10-8 on the year and 3-5 in the GPAC.The Warriors jumped out early with the opening two baskets to take a 4-0 lead. Doane responded with a 7-2 run to take their only lead of the game. Midland responded with a 19-5 run to go up 25-12 with eight minutes left in the half. The Tigers were able to cut the lead to seven points with a minute to play only to have the Warriors hit a 3-point basket to close the half and take a 37-27 lead into the break. The Tigers scored 21 of their points on seven made 3-point baskets.In the second half, Josiah Gardiner (SO/Milford, Neb.) scored seven of the team's first nine points before a 3-point basket from Anthony Laravie (SR/Omaha, Neb.) gave the Tigers their first perimeter shot of the half to cut the score to 52-39. The Tigers would eventually get the deficit into single digits but it came in the final minute of the game as the Warriors held on for the win.Gardiner led the Tigers with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting while adding nine rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots. Brady Timm (FR/Yutan, Neb.) added 13 points and six rebounds. Laravie led the Tigers with five assists and recorded the team's only steal in the game. Doane shot 39-percent from the floor, converting on 10-of-30 (33-percent) from behind the arc and 7-of-13 (54-percent) at the free throw line.Midland was led by Laurence Merritt with 14 points as four players finished in double figures for the Warriors. Midland shot 47-percent from the floor, making 8-of-20 (40-percent) 3-point attempts and 9-of-15 (60-percent) from the charity stripe.Doane will hit the road for their eight straight away game (10th straight counting the two exhibition games played over Thanksgiving break) as they travel to Sioux City, Iowa, on January 8, to take on Briar Cliff at 3:45 PM.
