WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University junior guard Ian Konek has been named to the All-KCAC third team, while freshman guard Trey Reid is an honorable-mention selection, the conference office announced today (Feb. 22). Additionally, guard Drew Patterson and forward Alex Gray were named as All-KCAC freshmen. In his second year with the program, Konek leads the Falcons in both points (15.4 ppg) and rebounds (5.0 rpg).  The Long Beach, Calif. native has reached the 20-point mark eight times this season, highlighted by a 30-point effort in the Falcons' 87-73 victory over Sterling College (Dec. 13).Konek was also named KCAC Offensive Player of the Week back on Nov. 29 after tallying a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds to fuel the Falcons' upset victory of then-No. 12-ranked Bethel College.Reid is second on the team in scoring (12.4 ppg) and has dished out a team-best 2.5 assists per game. Along with Konek, Reid's best scoring game also came in the home win over Sterling as the Wichita product poured in a career-best 31 points to earn KCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors."I'm proud of the guys who were acknowledged by the league as top performers," said Friends men's basketball head coach Austin McBeth. "Ian making third team wasn't what he set out to do at the beginning of the season, but he has grown so much over the year. I know this will fuel his desire to continue to be better each and every day. I'm also extremely proud of Trey for making honorable mention. Trey's role increased drastically from last year, and he exceeded any expectations I had for him. He is such a tenacious competitor, and had several games this season that we probably don't win without him."A Charlotte, NC native, Patterson is scoring 9.1 ppg and leads the Falcons while ranking fifth in the KCAC in three-point percentage (42.2 percent). Patterson also hit a career-best six threes on two occasions this season.Gray has made an immediate impact to the Falcons' program, averaging 10.7 ppg, 8.9 rpg and 2.9 apg in 13 career games.  On Feb. 7, the Owensboro, Ky. native earned KCAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week honors following a career-high 25-point outburst at Ottawa University (Feb. 1).If he had played enough games to qualify, Gray's rebounding and assist totals would both be team-highs for the Falcons."Getting two guys in Alex and Drew on All-Freshman was so rewarding to see," said McBeth. "Both of those guys have been anchors for our team throughout the season, and they both will continue to be pivotal contributors to our success in the future."The Falcons are the eighth seed in the KCAC postseason tournament and are in action tonight in a first-round matchup vs. ninth-seeded Avila University at 7 pm inside the Garvey Center."All four of these guys are great people, not just good basketball players, and I know this is just the beginning of their success at Friends. I'm so grateful we have more years together to develop both individually, and as a team."
