[Men's Basketball] Laravie Breaks Career 3-Point Record on Saturday

A hot-shooting first half was too much to overcome for the Men's Basketball team on Saturday as they fell at Briar Cliff, 83-70. The Tigers did their best to battle back, cutting a 25-point deficit to nine points with 4:25 to play.Doane trailed 52-33 at the half as Anthony Laravie (SR/Omaha, Neb.) led the team with 10 points, hitting a pair of 3-point baskets and tying the school record for career 3-point baskets. In the second half, Laravie broke the record with a 3-point basket at the 5:57 mark. He has 258 career 3-point baskets made, pushing past the mark set by Brian Jakubowski (2000-04).Briar Cliff shot 64-percent from the floor (18-of-28) and made 9-of-15 3-point attempts in the first half. Doane shot 45-percent in the opening half (14-of-31) but was held to 3-of-11 behind the arc. In the second half, the Tigers added some full court pressure that forced BCU to commit several turnovers as they finished with 23 for the game. However, the Tigers were unable to heat up from behind the arc, going 2-of-15 despite shooting 42-percent for the half from the floor.Laravie posted 16 points and was joined by Zach Witters (SR/Lenexa, Kan.) for team-high honors in the category. Alec Oberhauser (JR/Parkersburg, Iowa) and Nick Saiz (FR/Lexington, Neb.) led the team with five rebounds apiece as Doane held a 33-31 rebound advantage in the game. Laravie led the team with two assists and Witters had a team-high three steals.Briar Cliff received a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds from Quinn Vesey. Jaden Kleinhesselink added 17 points and seven rebounds.The Tigers will travel to Hastings on Wednesday, January 13, to take on the Broncos at 8 PM inside Lynn Farrell Arena.
