Hawks pull away at the end, top Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. — The Fredonia State men's basketball team led at the half, and would hold a slim lead with just over six minutes to play, but could not hold on, dropping a 96-87 contest at home to New Paltz. Malik Jemison led the Devils with 23 points. David Jordan added 13 and Tyrese Fuller had 12. Amir Ross had 11 points and a team-high seven boards.

The Devils' biggest lead of the game was at 11 points on multiple occasions. The last one coming following a three pointer by Aiden Proudfoot with 2:12 left in the first half to put the Devils up 38-27. They would lead 43-36 at the half.

The Hawks opened with seven straight points to start the second half and tie the game at 43-all.

The game would see five more lead changes in the second half. A pair of free throws by Sean St. Lucia gave New Paltz a 73-72 lead that would hold up through the end of the game. That was part of a 15-0 run that would end with the Hawks up 81-72.

AJ Knight led New Paltz with 30 points, and Kobe Bogart finished with 19.

The Devils game Saturday vs. Oneonta has been postponed due to weather. No makeup date has been set.
