Behrend slips past Devils

ERIE, Pa. — The Fredonia State men's basketball took a brief lead in the second half, and were within four points inside the final two minutes but were edged 66-62 at Behrend. Malik Jemison paced the Devils with 24 points and Keenan Roberts Jr. added 17. 

The Devils did not lead in the first half, and were behind by as much as 14 points, trailing 28-14. By the half, they whittled the lead down to 33-26.

At the 12:03 mark of the second, the Devils took their first lead, 41-40, following a layup by Roberts. An 8-0 run would give the Devils a five-point lead, 45-40, with 10:49 to play. 

The game would stay close, with a tie and two lead changes. The Devils never trailed by more than seven the rest of the way. 

Isaiah Youngquist had eight rebounds and Aiden Proudfoor added eight points. 

The Devils held an edge in threes, hitting 9-22 compared to 5-18 by Behrend, but were slowed at the free-throw line, going 11-23.

Behrend had three players in double digits, led by 19 from Tommy DiRienzo. 

The Devils have a quick turnaround, taking on Hilbert on Wednesday at Dods Hall. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
