THE OPENING TIP

• The Aggies had a great showing last week, coming off two momentum-building wins this past week and keeping their home win streak alive. NM State pulled off an overtime thriller against Liberty (79-73) and finished on top in a physical battle with Jax State (67-65) to push its conference record to 5-3 on the year. With the victories, Hooten's group goes to 11-12 on the season overall.

• NM State will collide with UTEP for its ninth game of conference play this season, with the Miners currently coming off a home loss versus Liberty (65-67) on Saturday in their eighth game of conference play. 

• Saturday will be the second installment of the "Battle of I-10" on the hardwood this season with NM State coming out on top the first time around at home (63-53). UTEP will host and have a chance to defend the Don Haskins Center Saturday night.
