[Men's Basketball] Redhawks Drop Cal Pac Final, Secure National Tournament Birth

Benedictine Mesa men's basketball fell in the championship game of the California Pacific Conference Tournament Tuesday night, 69-59 against the University of Saint Katherine. By making the championship game, the Redhawks qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the second time in program history. Senior Maurice Walton led the Redhawks on offense, finishing with 20 points on 8-11 from the field, and 8 rebounds. Senior Jay Small ended with 9 points. Senior Justin Parker had 8 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Junior Tre Carolina had 7 points and 8 rebounds. Senior Bryce Cheney came away with 6 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. The Redhawks struggled to find their rhythm on the offensive end. For the game, Benedictine Mesa shot 35.2% from the field and 17.6% from beyond the arc. The Redhawks had 6 assists on 19 field goals made. Both Benedictine Mesa and Saint Katherine each had 33 rebounds. The Redhawks now wait to see who their first-round matchup will be during the NAIA National Tournament Selection Show on Thursday at 6pm MST via the NAIA's Facebook page. Last season, Benedictine Mesa men's basketball won their first-round matchup against Vanguard University before falling to national runner-up Lewis-Clark State College in the second round. The 2021-22 NAIA Men's Basketball Tournament will begin on March 11-12 at various regional sites across the country.
